Firmu založil v roce 1997 pod názvem DOTEC - Ing. Lubomír Šanc bývalý obchodní a ekonomický náměstek firmy Strojíren Kolín (dříve ČKD DUKLA odštěpný závod TATRA Kolín), Ing. Lubomír Šanc.
Do firmy ihned nastoupilo několik pracovníků ze Strojíren Kolín s.p. (dříve ČKD DUKLA odštěpný závod TATRA Kolín). Podnikatelským záměrem bylo stát se dodavatelem a projektantem energetických zařízení a sítí v rozsahu výkonů a parametrů od 1-250 t/h resp. 1-200 MW. Firma svůj podnikatelský záměr opřela o zkušenosti z projektování, konstruování a vyššího dodavatelsví, které získali jednotliví pracovníci firmy ve Strojírnách Kolín ve funkcích:

Already the first few months of our existence confirmed that our business goal was the right one, as the technical structure of the company personnel who started to solve problems of projects. Projects, from the technical and realization point of view very demanding, and in the position of a principal contractor as well as sub-contractor of final supplies, in repairing and modernising plants (making them more environment-friendly), as well as one-off suppliers.
By natural development, thanks to being considered a reputable vendor, and thanks to our modern and complex approach towards technical solutions, a number of local as well as foreign firms expressed their interest in co-operating with our company. These activities together with the need to arrange financing for our business partners led us to the decision to transform Dotec into a joint stock company.
